The NQ's most famous business, the shopping emporium
Afflecks, provides affordable outlets for independent designers
and traders across four floors.
The Manchester Craft & Design Centre, housed in the beautifully restored former Victorian Fish and Poultry Market, is home to an array of artist-run studios offering the best in local design, jewellery, bags and accessories.
There are also a handful of shop-café hybrid venues that are worth checking out. Try Café Pop, a vintage shop with a small downstairs café, and Oklahoma, a bazaar of all things weird and wonderful including quirky gifts and homeware.
For those on the hunt for rare vinyl and independent music, try the different record shops along Oldham Street such as Piccadilly Records, Eastern Bloc and Vinyl Exchange.
Aside from offering an alternative shopping fix, the Northern Quarter is home to many independent restaurants and bars, providing a unique experience after dark. Try Apotheca for cocktails, Kosmonaut and Twenty Twenty Two for ping pong and Black Dog Ballroom for dancing the night away. Ning and TNQ Bar and Restaurant provide great food too.
