Manchester's excellent transport links mean that its easy to explore the Northwest of England.  Either use Manchester as a base to explore or stop off as part of a regional visit.  Here are some itinerary ideas:

Day 1 - Chester

Approximately an hour away from Manchester by train.  Take a Roman soldier escorted tour of this ancient city past the enchanting Eastgate Clock or a Chester Boat River Cruise to appreciate its beauty and character.  The city's unique feature is the 13th century 'Rows', two tiers of enticing shops running through the main streets.  For pure indulgence stay at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel and Spa one of the city's exclusive, world-renowned hotels offering a luxury spa experience and award-winning dining.

Day 2- Liverpool

Depart from Chester for the 45minute journey to Liverpool.  Visit the city's UNESCO World Heritage waterfront Albert Dock home of The Tate Liverpool, Beatles Story and the International Slavery Museum.  Liverpool ONE is a new retail and leisure complex boasting famous brands and stylish restaurants and bars.  For football fans visit Anfield, home of another of the region's famous teams, Liverpool Football Club.

Day 3 - The Lake District

The journey from Manchester Piccadilly to Oxenholme in only just over an hour.  The Lake District is the most famous national park in England with its inspiring landscapes of mountains, lakes, waterfalls and pretty villages.  Highlights are the World of Beatrix Potter, the Wordsworth Trust and take a Lake Windermere Cruise.  This stunning natural beauty is an experience you will never forget.

Day 4 - Blackpool

Depart from the Lake District for the 1 hour, 20minute journey to Blackpool, one of the UK's most popular seaside resorts.  Mix with famous and infamous faces at Louis Tussaud's Waxworks, have high tea in the elegant surroundings of the Tower Ballroom and experience the spectacular Illuminations during the winter months.  There's also the thrill of 125 rides including Europe's tallest roller coaster, The Pepsi Max Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
