In the morning, visit the Shree Swaminarayan Sidhant Sajivan Mandal. This arts and cultural centre hides a superb decorative ceiling that interprets the Hindu faith.

The shrine is a magnificent focal point and is carved out of solid hardwood with intricate floral designs embellished with real gold leaf. Displayed within the shrine are three pure white marble idols. Some say it is Bolton's very own Cistine Chapel.

Make sure you also experience the Zakariyya Jaame Masjid - Islamic Cultural Centre. This is Bolton's oldest mosque and was established in 1967. It's also the biggest mosque in Bolton and acts as Jaame, or regional mosque for the Greater Manchester/Lancashire area. The mosque is active in many areas such as interfaith work, arranging school/employer visits and delivering Islamic awareness courses.

What about lunch?

There are many Asian restaurants and places where you can pick up a bite to eat or sit down and enjoy an excellent meal.

For those looking for a leisurely dining experience, go to Spice Valley Indian Restaurant which is situated just outside the town centre but has ample parking for all.

In the afternoon, visit House of Raja's, an authentic Indian department store and do a spot of shopping. You can purchase all sorts of Indian delights from their extensive range of Asian food, ranging from herbs and spices, to curries and pickles. Saree wearing demonstrations and food tasting sessions can also be arranged for you.

Time to spare? If you want to make an evening of it, sample Achari Indian Restaurant for a delicious meal in relaxed surroundings.
