Tatton Park is an impressive historic estate of 1000 acres situated 20 minutes south of Manchester adjacent to the historic town of Knutsford. Thousands of group visitors each year enjoy the Mansion, Gardens, Tudor Old Hall and Farm.
This year we are also hosting the third Tatton Park Biennial: this is a contemporary art festival which takes place throughout the estate and this years' theme is 'Flights of Fancy'.
The Neo-Classical Mansion is first glimpsed on its high vantage point looking out over the Parkland as you drive in. Built in the late 18th century it was home to the Egerton family until 1958 when it was bequeathed to the National Trust. The Staterooms feature magnificent Gillows furniture, masterpieces by Van Dyck and Canaletto, Baccarat glass plus one of the NT's finest library collections. The Victorian kitchens, cellars and servants' quarters offer a contrasting glimpse of domestic life.
The 50 acres of award-winning Gardens offer year-round colour and showcase 250 years of garden design and history. Features include the Italian and Rose Gardens, Topiary, Arboretum, restored Conservatory and the Walled Kitchen Garden which provides seasonal fruit and vegetables for sale on site. The Japanese Garden is considered one of the best in Europe.
Tatton's hidden 'gem' is the Tudor Old Hall which hosts tours taking visitors through 500 years of history. Guides bring to life stories of those who lived here from the 16th century Lord of the Manor through to 1950s estate workers. It is also the setting for our historical re-enactments. Home Farm is a working farm which uses traditional farming methods and has received RBST accreditation. Its WW2 days always prove very popular with groups.
