Manchester Art Gallery Group Tours
Manchester Art Gallery houses the city's magnificent art collection in stunning Victorian and contemporary surroundings. The collection spans six centuries and comprises over 25,000 works.
Highlights include an outstanding collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings collection and a Gallery of Craft and Design showcasing a wonderful collection of decorative art. Recent acquisitions include Antony Gormley's sculpture, Filter, which is displayed suspended in the building's three-story glass atrium. Manchester Art Gallery is in the heart of the city centre, easily accessible by tram, bus, train, car and coach.
Groups can make the most of their visit by booking a tour with one of the gallery's expert guides. Groups booking a tour and refreshments package can enjoy a hot drink with scones or biscuits at a special discounted rate.
Tours on offer at Manchester Art Gallery include:
- Free introduction and orientation: a short 20 minute introduction to the building and the collection.
- Highlights tour: a one hour tour introducing the gallery and the gems of the art collection.
- Manchester tour: explores artists, art works and decorative objects related to the history of Manchester, from the 18th century to today. Lasts one hour.
- Exhibitions tours: the gallery offers group tours of all its major exhibitions.
The gallery also offers a tour that is specially designed for groups that have never visited an art gallery before and which can be provided free of charge for some Manchester based community groups.
