5 ways to shop in the city
Retail heaven in Manchester
Manchester’s shopping offer covers hundreds of high street names. Market Street is great for spotting chic bargains, with Primark and H&M. Manchester Arndale is a huge centre with big names including Levis, a flagship Topshop and the world’s biggest Next. A short bus rider from the centre, the Trafford Centre is a shopper’s heaven with over 230 stores under one roof.
King Street offers prestigious retail therapy, home to many designer shops including Tommy Hilfiger, Vivienne Westwood and Armani. Exchange Square in the centre of the city is home to smart shopping outlets and luxury department stores Harvey Nichols and Selfridges – the ultimate designer destinations!
The Northern Quarter is a hub of independent businesses, where you’ll find everything from vintage clothing, retro furniture, records and books. Try Affleck’s, an ‘alternative’ department store packed with goodies, or Manchester Craft and Design Centre, a tranquil retreat where artists work in individual studios making unique pieces, from jewellery to textiles to ceramics.
Shopping in Manchester needn’t be expensive. Find the best bargains at the city’s many markets, where friendly advice and a personal service are always a given. Visit the Manchester Arndale Market, the weekly Tib Street Fashion market or the twice-monthly Farmers’ & Producers’ Market at Piccadilly Gardens.
If convenience is your thing, Manchester has lots of great shopping destinations with a wealth of retail outlets, restaurants and entertainment all under one roof. In the city centre try The Arndale for high street, or Barton Arcade for boutique. Out of the city The Trafford Centre is the ultimate shopping destination and The Lowry Outlet Mall is perfectly placed for exploring The Quays.
