Behind Closed Doors, Ceramics by Verity Howard

Verity Howard's slab-built ceramic forms convey a sense of stillness and the eerie sensation of being an outsider looking in.

25 February - 29 May 2016

Winner of the 2015 MMU Graduate Award, Verity Howard is interested in people's everyday lives and activities. She describes her ceramic forms as 'contemplative rather than functional', each conveying a sense of stillness and absence of presence.

Verity's pieces are influenced by the built environment and each one features a monoprinted or stamped glimpse through a window.

Behind Closed Doors includes Verity's final project from university, and new work made at a 2015 residency at Guldagergaard: The International Ceramic Research Center in Denmark.

The exhibition launches on Thursday 25 February. On the opening night between 6pm and 8pm, guests can enjoy live music from the resident DJ Ailsa McLaggan of Living Room Dance Club, and rum cocktails from The Duppy Share.
