Douglas Valley is a particular favourite with visitors. Stretching from Crooke Village through the township of Gathurst and on to Appley Bridge and the village of Parbold, the valley provides a wealth of opportunity for walking, exploring or simply sitting at one of a number of canal-side inns.
Dean Wood within the Douglas Valley is one of the few remaining large areas of ancient woodland in Wigan. Majestic Oak, Beech and Sycamore trees rise out of carpets of wild flowers such as Celandines, Blue Bells and Wild Garlic.
Walk 6 - "Wigan Pier to Appley Bridge" from the "Manchester Countryside" series, is the perfect way to experience the Douglas Valley area. Please call 01942 825 677 to receive your free copy.
