Whit Friday Band Contest 2016
20 May 2016
The Whit Friday Brass Band Contests take place every year in Saddleworth on the afternoon and evening of Whit Friday from around 4pm onwards.
The band contests date back to 1884 and are often described as “The greatest free show on earth” attracting spectators and musicians from all over the world. Every year dozens of Brass Bands compete in the picturesque villages of Saddleworth in this unique and traditional event.
Over a hundred brass bands participated in some twenty different contests at venues around the moorland villages and towns of the western edge of the Pennines last year.
Results and photos from the 2015 contest, plus details about plans for the 2017 contests can be found on the Saddleworth and Oldham Whit Friday Brass Band Contests website.
