Platt Fields Park
Ideally situated in Central Manchester, Platt Fields Park is set in 70 Hectares and is classed as one of Manchester Leisure's major outdoor sites.
In 1907 a resolution was passed recommending the Corporation buy Platt Fields for public use at a cost of £59,975. The park was formally opened on May 7th 1910.During the winter of 1908/09 and again between 1919/25, when there was high unemployment, local people were given work on laying out the park, inverting the Gore Brook and planting banks with trees and shrubs. The main feature of the park was the construction of a lake and island that covers a little over 6 acres. Other work included levelling the park and playing fields, formation of the bowling greens, tennis courts and bathing pool.
The park has three dedicated show fields which have a supported infrastructure for large scale national and small scale and local events.
