The canal linked the Duke of Bridgewater's mines in Worsley to Manchester, enabling enough coal to reach the city centre to kick start the industrial revolution. Beautiful black and white buildings, one of the oldest dry-docks in the country. The principal buildings of interest are the Bridgewater Estate Offices, the Alphabet bridge, the humpback bridge, the Nailmakers House, Rock House, Packet House, Court House and former Police Station (The Old Nick). Take a stroll through Worsley woods and you can see The Aviary, a mock tudor house. Choose from a number of places to eat which include the new Milan Italian Restaurant, The Barton Arm, The Bridgewater Hotel, John Gilbert, Tung Fong Restaurant and Worsley Garden Centre Cafe.
