Olde Boars Head Inn

Olde Boars Head Inn

This old coaching inn, situated on the former Chester to York highway is the earliest recorded in Middleton. A stone lintel in the cellar is dated 1632. Here you will find Middleton's old court room and the room where Sam Bamford held sway. The building forms part of a row of ancient cottages. Legend has it that a secret tunnel links the inn with the Parish Church standing on the hill opposite, but no trace has ever been found.
