The Waggon at Birtle
The Waggon at Birtle is a popular and smartly laid out bistro that is housed in a former pub in a hillside between Bury and Rochdale.
The menu is modern British with a French influence. The dishes are extremely well presented and make good use of local produce as evident in the tempura of Chadwick’s Bury black pudding served with Lancashire cheese, apple bacon and mustard vinaigrette or the cornfed Goosnargh chicken with braised root vegetables, thyme, rosemary and new potatoes.
The Waggon at Birtle has three different menus including the market menu, a la carte and the lunchtime bites.
The wine list is comprehensive and includes interesting information on the provenance of each wine.
