Glebelands Farm

Glebelands Farm

Glebelands Farm is a pioneering urban growing project on the banks of the Mersey in Sale, producing organic food for consumption within Greater Manchester. Current recipes being used are to make rocket pesto, squash and kale soup and chervilicious recipes.

The mission is to challenge perceptions about how food is produced and inspire people towards positive change. They supply delicious healthy fresh vegetables to the local community at affordable prices. They aim to increase awareness and understanding of truly sustainable food production through an education programme and by providing training and volunteer opportunities.

Glebelands operates under Soil Association organic standards, which recognises the environmental benefits of organic practices. By using organic methods they avoid the use of chemical pesticides and herbicides and instead concentrate on building biodiversity on site, working with nature to create a healthy balance.

All produce is sold within five miles of the site, meaning that carbon emissions are minimised. They also have on site composting to increase fertility, and any additional soil inputs are sourced within 5 miles, again keeping emissions low. At Glebelands they aim to demonstrate that low carbon food production is possible.
