A new bus tour that will reveal Manchester and Salford’s curious history launches on Saturday 4 May.

‘Best of Manchester, City of Firsts and Quirky Tales’ will give local people and visitors the opportunity to see the city’s most famous sights while listening to more than 100 facts and original tales of Manchester’s history.

The 90-minute ‘live’ guided tour, operated by local tour operator Manchester Sightseeing Tours, includes stories about Manchester’s buildings, history, transport, technology, religion, science, music, food, education, football, industry, culture, literature and politics.

Paul Beaumont, from Manchester Sightseeing Tours, says: “Many people don’t realise the great history and quirky facts about the city in which they live and work, while some locals just head for the Arndale Centre and Piccadilly Gardens. This new double-decker bus tour, hosted by an official Manchester tour guide, explores the city’s curious history from the world’s first train service, the first canal, the first computer, votes for women, the submarine, first official vegetarians, the first industrial city, first political demonstrations to the invention of Vimto, Soreen and Graphene plus many more weird and fun facts. It’s a great way for local people and visitors to the city to find out more about the special place we call home.”

Each passenger receives a complimentary souvenir route map guide plus a Manchester drink and snack.

The tour will depart every Saturday at 11am and 2pm from 4 May from Liverpool Road, near the Museum of Science and Industry. Tickets are priced at adult £19.50 and child £10.00.
