Refuge

What’s nicer than going for a lovely drink with your little fella in tow? Not a lot. That’s why we’ve come up with a list of some pubs where your furry best friend will receive a warm welcome. From cosy gastropubs to swanky bars, here’s our pick of a few of the best dog-friendly boozers in Manchester:

Refuge by Volta

Although only dogs under 35kg are allowed at Refuge bar the staff are more than happy to provide dog beds for them (furniture and cushions are off limits to furry patrons). It’s hard not to enjoy one of their on-tap ales or impressive cocktails with the little fella at your feet in the stunning space which is known for its decorative tiling and soaring ceilings.

Albert’s Schloss

Small dogs are welcome at Albert’s Schloss, a Bavarian-style restaurant-cum-beer hall until 7 pm. While dogs are given bowls of water and a warm welcome from staff, owners can look forward to walls adorned with skis, menus featuring Teutonic castles, and log fires in the middle of stone tables. They also have an excellent if eclectic menu but furry friends aren’t allowed in the restaurant area.

Cottonopolis

Not only does Cottonopolis kill it in the food department, it’s also one of the best bars in the Northern Quarter. And one of the most dog-friendly to boot. Your little mate will enjoy being treated like a VIP and mingling with other well-behaved doggies here. Pro tip: if you fancy trying some of their incredible food along with your picture-perfect cocktail or craft beer, your little friend can enjoy a special treat like tuna sashimi or char siu pork too!

The Bay Horse Tavern

Good music, a dartboard, and a vast range of gins, craft beers and other libations await at The Bay Horse Tavern, a relatively quiet, quirky pub in the heart of the Northern Quarter. The lovely Victorian watering hole has a log fire, a secret garden and big comfy sofas for doggies to enjoy, but it also hosts free gigs, quiz nights and DJ sessions, and specialises in great pub grub. What more could you ask for?

The Wharf

With its oh-so-scenic canal-side setting, The Wharf is heaven for both humans and dogs. Not only will you feel like you’ve taken a trip outside the city, you can choose from six cask ales, a decent wine list, over a hundred malts, and delicious dishes from their seasonal menu. Furry companions, big and small, will be welcomed in the bar area and beer garden where food and drinks are served all day.

Roc & Rye

Well-mannered doggies including the happy little chap above are more than welcome at gorgeous cocktail bar, Roc & Rye. Within the Grade ii listed building you can sit back on their plush blue velvet or leather chairs and sip on exquisite cocktails created by award-winning mixologists. It’s pretty much the perfect setting to get chatting to other dog owners while your little buddy makes friends with their dogs.
