The remainder of Covid-19 restrictions in England have now been removed, allowing theatres, nightclubs, live music venues and all other activities to fully open. Greater Manchester’s tourism and hospitality sector is excited to welcome you back and invites you to take a personal approach to your Covid-19 safety and the safety of others around you.

Please remember that in certain settings, such as on TfGM Metrolink trams, face coverings are still a requirement, and other venues may politely request you to wear a face covering and practice social distancing. We encourage you to respect the rules of individual businesses and venues, whilst enjoying all of what Greater Manchester has to offer in a safe and responsible way.

Here is our top pick of five things you can do in the week ahead:

1. Live events continue at Hope Fest across the week

Hope Fest from Hope Mill Theatre continues its residency in New Islington – this week’s events include; Girls Night Out (30 July), for an all-female night of music, cabaret, comedy and cocktails led by Girl Gang Manchester; the following day, The Hope Fest Comedy Gala (31 July), brings together some of the UK’s hottest comedy talent; and then on 1 August Manchester’s LGBTQ+ choir, The Sunday Boys, perform a back catalogue of hits including Sondheim, Joni Mitchell, and the first live performance of Finn Anderson’s ‘Distant Dream’.

2. Enjoy free science fun at the Science and Industry Museum

From 24 July until 5 September, families can rediscover the fun of summer at the Science and Industry Museum, which will be open every day throughout the holidays to provide a fun, safe place to keep everyone entertained.  The world of codebreaking and secret communications is available to uncover in new exhibition, Top Secret: From ciphers to cyber security, with additional espionage-themed activities being led by the museum’s team of expert Explainers throughout the museum. Visitors can also enjoy appearances from some well-known CBeebies faces and get involved with the science behind sustainability as part of a whole Manchester Science Festival Family Weekender devoted to our changing climate and ideas for a better world.

3. Go through the looking glass at RHS Garden Bridgewater

Families can be transported to Alice’s Wonderland at RHS Garden Bridgewater this summer, as it celebrates 150 years of the iconic and classic stories Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass. Inspired by Alice’s spirit of curiosity and a host of quirky characters from the stories, families can view the garden through the eyes of Alice from 24 July. Meet your favourite characters and enjoy performances, storytelling, minibeast hunts, planting and craft workshops and more. Perhaps on your adventure, you'll discover the Cheshire Cat among the trees, or spot a table set up for a mad tea party!

4. Watch a magic show that doesn’t go quite to plan…

In one of the first live performances set to return to The Lowry, Magic Goes Wrong comes straight from the West End with a multi award-winning show from the team behind The Play That Goes Wrong. A hapless gang of magicians stage an evening of grand illusion, but magic turns to mayhem in this comedy mismatch, with dare-devil stunts and jaw-dropping feats – running from 27 July until 1 August.

5. Classical music from film and TV performed at The Stoller Hall

The UK’s leading wind quartet, as featured on TV, bring a one-hour performance of music from film and television, alongside some great classical pieces on 27 July. Wind at Sea is a new programme from Cuillin Sound, performed at The Stoller Hall, with recognisable sounds including the British Airway’s theme, English music from Elgar and Peter Warlock, and Spanish music by Manuel de Falla.
