1. Celebrate Pride in Salford 

The Pink Picnic is back this year and is Salford’s annual LGBT+ pride celebration. The event will take place in Peel Park, Salford on Saturday 25 June with headliners such as 911, Kitty Scott-Claus and noughties duo The Cheeky Girls. Alongside a line-up of great acts, The Pink Picnic also plays host to a wide range of expo stalls and a dogs and divas dog show. General admission is free however tickets are required.  

2. Experience the culture of the Székler people 

Returning for its sixth year, Góbéfest is the UK's only free weekend-long festival to celebrate Transylvania and the Carpathian Basin. From Friday 24 – Saturday 26 June, try some kűrtőskalács (chimney cake), mititiei (Romanian skinless sausages) and drink Csiki beer whilst soaking up the sounds of a cimbalom. The 2022 instalment will take place across Manchester's Cathedral Gardens and Exchange Square and will play host to an array of bands, choirs, ensembles, orchestras, dance groups and solo performers. 

3. Taste some great food in Stockport 

Foodie Friday is Stockport’s hugely popular street food event, taking place between 6 pm and 9 pm at Stockport Market Place on the last Friday of every month. This Friday 24 June, all are welcome for this feel-good gathering that offers street food, craft ales and live entertainment from local talent in the beautiful surroundings of the historic Old Town. 

4. Board the Real Ale Trail with East Lancs Railway 

Go on a journey with East Lancashire Railway and discover some of the Irwell Valley’s most beautiful locations and exceptional pubs, all linked together by the railway. Whether you are an ale lover, cider celebrator or cream soda specialist, you will find something to suit your taste buds at every station along the Rail Ale Trail. Their classic steam train departs the station on Sunday 26 June with tickets starting from £54.50. 

5. Explore Indian cinema with the Manchester Indian Film Festival 

Following its debut in 2021, the Manchester Indian Film Festival (MIFF) returns for a second year, this time with a larger and more spectacular line-up of independent films from the Indian subcontinent.  Screenings will be held at HOME, EVERYMAN, Ducie Street Warehouse, Manchester Poetry Library, and The Carlton Club from Saturday 25 June to Wednesday 6 July. 

New opening of the week: Kitten, Deansgate Square  

A new restaurant and bar offering modern Japanese fine dining and contemporary cocktails has opened in Deansgate Square. Diners entering the ground-floor restaurant in the the New York-style tower are greeted with vast eight-metre high ceilings, walls of bamboo and Venetian plastering, an extensive marbled bar and a towering five-metre bonsai tree. Guests can dine with a front-row seat to the sushi chefs, with dishes including the most delicate grade tuna and hamachi, whilst glancing into the semi-open kitchen to see dishes grilled over one of the largest charcoal Robatayaki grills in the city.
