Father’s Day is fast approaching. On Sunday 18 June many of us will be finding ways to show dads and father figures exactly what they mean to us and thank them for all they do.  

Across Greater Manchester, there are many ways to celebrate that father figure in your life, including some unique experiences that they’ll never forget. Whether you’re looking for an indulgent treat, family entertainment or a day to remember, Greater Manchester has your Father’s Day sorted. 

Here are just some ideas of how to celebrate this Father’s Day: 

Dine at The Alan 

From Saturday 17 to Monday 19 June between 12pm and 9pm you can treat your father figure to a feast courtesy of The Alan Hotel. This limited edition Father’s Day offer serves two and is priced at £60 (so only £30 per person). Bad Dad at Sale Waterside 

Don’t let the name fool you, Bad Dad is the perfect family theatre treat for your dad or father figure. Written by popular children’s author David Walliams, Bad Dad follows Frank and his father Gilbert as they try to escape the clutches of a local crime lord. It’s a hilarious and heartwarming story the whole family will love and it’s showing exclusively for Father’s Day on Sunday 18 June at 4pm . UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival 2023 

On Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 June, Salford City Council are teaming up with Xinhua Chinese Association and the British Dragon Boat Racing Association for an unmissable two-day event, which may just make your Father’s Day activities the most memorable yet. Dragon Boat Racing is a fun-filled, adrenaline pumping, water sports activity, which originated in China around 2300 years ago. It has taken place at Salford Quays for the last decade, and this year it is set to be bigger and better than ever before. Saturday 17 will see amateur’s race while Sunday 18 will have more experienced teams competing. The event is open to teams and competitors aged 16 or over, so you and dad can get stuck into the action. Or, if you’re more of a spectator, this huge celebration of Chinese culture will make your Father’s Day weekend extra special. There will be cultural performances, kung fu and Chinese calligraphy taking over Salford Quays. Learn more 

Parent & Teen - Cooking Together 

Fancy learning a new skill with Dad this Father’s Day? Teenagers and their father figures can practice teamwork and cook up a storm at Food Sorcery in Didsbury. Learn to cook a main course, a side dish and a dessert before tasting your creation in the dining area. Chefs will team you how to improve your skills and show you how to create a new family mealtime favourite. The cost for one adult and one teen is £140, there are various dates on offer specialising in different Asian Flavours. Learn more. 

Vitality Blast: Lancashire Lightning vs Durham Cricket 

If your father figure is a cricket fan, then Emirates Old Trafford have the perfect way to celebrate with the return of The Vitality Blast. Lancashire Lightening are back and will be taking on Durham Cricket on Sunday 18 June at 2:30pm. The Vitality Blast is English domestic cricket’s 20 overs a side competition and it follows the standard T20 format. It’s a fast paced and exciting way to enjoy the cricket and may just be the perfect way to bond with your father figure this summer. Tickets for with adults cost just £10 and juniors from £5. Trafford Live  

Coincidentally, Trafford’s biggest family day of out of the summer is on the same day as Father’s Day. Lancashire Cricket Club is teaming up with Trafford council to create a free festival which celebrates the best of Trafford. Incorporating the Vitality Blast fixture we mentioned above, there will be a range of events, activities and displays that will showcase the borough's history, culture and sport that the whole family can enjoy. Meet Trafford’s armed forces, celebrate the diverse communities, watch the borough’s best artistic talent, learn about the environment and more. Kids can even join in the fun with Trafford Libraries and meet the mascots of Emirates Old Trafford.  Entrance to The Emirates Old Trafford Fan Village is free, but you do need to pay to attend the match.
