The statue of Emmeline Pankhurst that will stand in St Peter’s Square is now taking shape.
Councillor Andrew Simcock, who led the WoManchester statue campaign, visited the studio of sculptor Hazel Reeves to see the process of building Our Emmeline for himself.
Our Emmeline was chosen in a public vote to select a suitable subject for a female statue.
The statue shows the Manchester-born suffragette leader standing on a chair, her arm outstretched.
Our Emmeline is due to be unveiled in St Peter’s Square on December 14, centenary of women in the UK being able to vote in an election for the first time.
Once in situ, Our Emmeline will point towards the site of the Free Trade Hall, which is today occupied by the Radisson Blu Edwardian Manchester hotel.
