You are here: Home > Things To Do > Co-operative Heritage Trails
In 1844 the Rochdale Pioneers founded the principles of the modern Co-operation and shortly after, several Co-operative Societies were set up across Rochdale borough. For the town and villages of Heywood, Littleborough, Milnrow, Smallbridge, Wardle and Middleton the individual Co-operative Heritage Trails will take you to all the buildings linked with the Co-operatives societies. The societies were responsible for the construction of mills, grocery shops, houses and even dance halls.
The trails will make you discover the role of the different coop branches and the important role they played in the urban, economic and social development of these areas.
