3 min readGet a free horror film fix at your convenience, as Grimmfest – Manchester’s prestigious international genre and cult film festival – launches GRIMMFEST TV on Monday 20 April. Available at http://grimmfest.com/tv/, this is a brand new online TV channel dedicated to all things horror, allowing viewers to access an exciting array of feature films and shorts from the Grimmfest archives.
This is an opportunity to enjoy some of the most cutting-edge horror film content, testament to Grimmfest’s expert approach. The festival, which is based in Manchester, is now in its 2nd decade, was recently voted one of the top ‘30 Bloody Best Genre Festivals in the World’ by Movie Maker magazine, and is continuing to show its determination to provide high-quality content even through the time of lockdown. Hence an online TV channel, to be enjoyed at home!
GRIMMFEST TV will launch with a range of feature and short films available, including We Summoned A Demon – winner of Grimmfest 2018’s Best Short award. Other short films will include Sybil, God’s Kingdom, Loom and the winner of Best Short 2019 Limbo. And that is not at all! Just some examples of feature films amongst the selection include the horror comedy Mon Ami (aka Frenemies), the gory Swedish feature Wither and Grimmfest’s 2017 opening night film Habit, which was filmed here in Manchester (see our interview with the Director Simeon Halligan here), based on the cult novel of the same name by Stephen McGeagh. And the content keeps on coming! At least two new films will be added to the channel every week, so that means an ever-growing selection of horror content. The Grimmfest team has also reached out to many of the filmmakers who have been involved in past editions of Grimmfest, offering the channel as a new platform to showcase their work… celebrating connections and supporting the creative scene.
According to Festival Director Simeon Halligan:
“Right now, it's impossible to access cinemas or screening events in most countries, and we thought it would be a great idea to give something back to all of the amazing genre film fans out there that keep all of us film makers and exhibitors doing what we love to do. With that in mind, Grimmfest has been busy curating content for our new channel with award winning horror shorts and features that have premiered at recent additions of Grimmfest. The films will be available to view for free, while the world is in Lockdown.”
“'We believe this will benefit both fans and filmmakers too, as the Grimmfest brand and its online reach will give all the selected films some much-needed exposure while people are staying at home and unable to visit cinemas and film festivals across the World.”

The platform could even bring an online element to future editions of the Grimmfest film festival itself (which has taken place in Manchester during ‘Halloween month’, October, for the last 11 years and 2020 marks the 12th) and the team are currently exploring options.
