Portland Basin
At the junction of the Peak Forest Canal, the Ashton Canal and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal is Portland Basin. The Portland Basin Museum is housed in the restored nineteenth century Ashton Canal Warehouse, and features exhibitions on local life and history. From here, you can enjoy many walking and cycling routes, taking in the canals and the stunning surrounding countryside.
Werneth Low
Offering panoramic views across Manchester and beyond, this country park extends for 200 acres across the Northern and Western slopes of Werneth Low. On clear days, you can see as far as far as the Welsh Mountains.
Daisy Nook Country Park
Daisy Nook sits on the border of Oldham and Tameside, offering 40 hectares of woodlands, meadows, waterways and a lake. Running through the Medlock Valley, Daisy Nook Country Park is situated in an area once known Waterhouses.
Stalybridge Country Park
Situated to the North East of Stalybridge, this developing country park conists of the Brushes Valley, with its four reservoirs running up into the Pennine Moors, and Carrbrook, lying in the shadow of 12th Century Buckton Castle.
Lovers’ Alley Trail
The two-mile Lovers’ Alley Trail explores the Peak Forest Canal and the Tame Valley. Just outside of Hyde, the walk celebrates the region’s industrial past, taking in warehouses, mills, farms and woodland.
