Manchester Airport Information

With two terminals handling over 32 million passengers each year, Manchester Airport is the global gateway to the North of England. It is directly connected to over 200 destinations and is no more than one stop away from anywhere in the world. Passengers can also enjoy an enhanced experience in Manchester Airport’s redeveloped Terminal 2, featuring state-of-the-art facilities, premium lounges, and a range of food and drink options, including well-known Manchester food & drink hotspots making their airport debut. 

Transport to and from Manchester Airport

By car

Manchester Airport is located via the M56 at Junction 5. The M56 provides direct links to the M6 and the M60, ensuring ease of accessibility whether travelling from the North or South.

If travelling to the airport from local areas or Manchester city centre itself, follow signs for the A34 or A5103.

Terminals are clearly signposted on approach, while the postcode for the airport is M90 1QX if wishing to use satellite navigation.

By train

Train services now run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with national operator TransPennine Express roughly once every hour during late-night and early-morning hours. Alongside other operators including Northern, trains run approximately every 10 minutes between Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly, with an average journey time of around 20 minutes. Direct services also connect Manchester Airport to a range of major cities across the UK. 

By bus and coach

Bus and coach services run to and from Manchester Airport via The Station.

By Metrolink

Trams run direct from the airport through the city centre to Victoria, where you can connect to national rail services. From Cornbrook, just outside the city centre, there are frequent connections across the wider network, with services to Altrincham, Bury, Ashton, East Didsbury, Eccles, Rochdale and The Trafford Centre. 

Trams run every 12 minutes throughout the day, with services every 15 minutes on Sundays and public holidays outside of 09:00–17:30. To check the first and last tram times, click here

Tickets must be purchased before boarding, either from machines at all stops or by using contactless payment – simply tap in and out on the platform. Travelcards are also available and offer good value for those making multiple journeys or travelling as a group.

Taxis

Private Hire Taxis

StreetCars private hire operates a streamlined virtual service at the airport. Customers can pre-book their transfer in advance, with flight tracking in place to adjust pick-up times if schedules change. 

On arrival, StreetCars staff are present within the airport to meet and guide passengers to the designated pick-up points, ensuring a smooth and efficient transfer experience.

Black Cab Taxis

Licensed black cab taxis are available from all airport terminals for ease of travel either to or from the airport.

Fares for any journey taken inside the Manchester Licensed Area will be shown on the meter inside the taxi, while for destinations listed outside Manchester there is no requirement for the driver to use the taxi meter to determine the fare.
