A new UK horror TV series has been recently revealed as in development – an announcement that will be exciting to many. Titled Fear Machine, it is a creation of Manchester’s very own Grimmfest coming together with UK production company Greenacre Films. Get ready for gripping contemporary British tales of horror, brought home!
Fear Machine seeks to celebrate the best of UK talent in the genre, through an anthology series of hour-long horror films incorporating suspense, mystery and the supernatural. This format may remind some of the cult popularity of horror shows in the ‘70s and ‘80s; a time when cult TV series’ began to attract an enchanted audience. Now the time has come to really dig deep into UK horror talent and its television potentials. Grimmfest Director Simeon Halligan says;
"Horror is more popular than ever, with plenty of Film and TV content coming from North America, but in the Sixties and Seventies, it was the UK who dominated the horror scene with companies like Hammer - we feel it's time British horror was back in the limelight.'
Greenacre Films certainly is excited about such a celebration of horror too. After all, it is an independent production company founded by award-winning producers Nadine Marsh-Edwards and Amanda Jenks, who are currently working with some of the UK's leading writing talent. Vibrant and interesting stories underpin much of their work. They see the collaboration with Grimmfest on ‘Fear Machine’ as a “unique opportunity to explore new ways to comment on the human condition while being entertaining and downright scary”, according to Marsh-Edwards.
Considering that Greenacre films and Grimmfest are seen by many as forward-thinking innovators within the world of film, it’s no wonder Fear Machine is highly-anticipated. With its tagline ‘Authored voices. Distinctive Worlds’, Greenacre Films is already behind the likes of Netflix’s popular Been So Long (fronted by Michaela Coel), whilst Grimmfest – Manchester’s international festival of horror and cult cinema – returns to the city for its 11th year this 3-6 October 2019.
Fear Machine marks an exciting collaboration and an exciting opportunity to explore contemporary tales of terror. Stay updated via Grimmfest and Greenacre Films for progress and news.
