The Monastery Manchester (also known as Gorton Monastery) is a former Church and Franciscan Friary now functioning as an event venue, heritage site and visitor attraction.
Designed by architect Edward Welby Pugin, the site functioned as a Church and Franciscan Friary between its completion in 1872 until 1989 when the site was deconsecrated and the friars left. Abandoned and derelict for many years after a failed property development scheme, the site was saved by a group of volunteers.
The Monastery is now maintained by the same charitable trust that saved the building who work on its continued preservation so that it can be enjoyed for future generations.
This digital tour was originally created for the Monastery's Facebook page in response to the Covid-19 pandemic so that visitors could still access the site. It is a completely digital tour using previously recorded 3D mapping software, screen capture and video editing.
