Escape to Freight Island promises block parties, belly laughs and educational fun for all the family this November in Manchester.
Escape to Freight Island opened last year to huge fanfare, cramming Mayfield Depot site with several of the best restaurants and bars in the city. The space quickly became a hit with parents looking for a destination that could please the kids without sacrificing grown up fun, good food, and a great atmosphere.
Throughout November Escape to Freight Island plays host to a raft of fun-filled family events, with something for everyone taking place on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Media Cubs Workshop
Sun 14 Nov, 9am-11am, 11am-1pm, 1pm-3pm. Tickets £7
Budding reporters, keen cartoonists and YouTubers of the future from across Manchester are invited to enjoy the Media Cubs Workshop on 14 November. Three two-hour workshops will run between 9am and 3pm. The sessions, hosted in a pop-up studio, will see each reporter receive their own ‘reporter pack’ complete with reporter handbook and press pass, and enjoy a range of creative and digital news reporting challenges.
Fun DMC
Sun 24 Nov, 10am – 12noon. Tickets from £5
For the very first time, family block party Fun DMC will welcome Manchester ravers and misbehavers on 20 November. The daytime disco for those too old or too young to go clubbing plays music parents loved back in the day, while giving kids a chance to dance, play and even have a scratch on the decks. This is memory-making family time that everyone can enjoy, and mums and dads might even have the chance for a cheeky drink.
Fun DMC will run from 10am to midday, with giveaways, dance competitions, face painting, a graffiti train, hip-hop colouring in and a photo booth for maximum fun.
Science Made Simple
Sat 27 Nov, 10am – 12.30pm Tickets £7
On 27 November, Science Made Simple will run two back-to-back 50 minute workshops. Music to your Ears will allow little ones to hear, see, and touch sound, while learning secrets of how sound works. Science of Sport meanwhile, is an interactive show explaining exactly how science impacts sporting ability.
The Comedy Store for Kids
Sun 28 November, 10.45am Tickets £6
Last up is laugh out loud live performances, as The Comedy Store for Kids dishes out family friendly stand up on 28 November. Performances from Alex Boardman, Kate McCabe and El Baldinho will have audience members of all ages rolling in the aisles, and possibly even laughing their socks off! The show starts at 10.45am.
