Morning:
Start the day by heading out to one of Greater Manchester’s many picturesque country walking spots. Rivington Pike in Bolton, Dovestones in Oldham, Hollingworth Lake in Rochdale, Reddish Vale Country Park in Stockport, all offer spectacular countryside walking trails. Find the perfect spot to view the whole of the city from afar or explore winding woodland and reconnect to nature.
Lunch:
When you’re ready to rest your feet and refuel head back towards the city centre and make your way out to Salford Quays or Castlefield in Manchester City Centre. Both locations have a lot of choice for eating out, from big name chains to independent eateries, most overlooking the city’s expansive canal network.
If you’ve got time after a bite to eat take the short journey from Salford Quays to Ordsall Hall, built in the 1300’s it is one of Greater Manchester’s oldest buildings, home to some friendly ghosts and a fascinating history. Wander around the beautiful gardens and allotment – an oasis in the centre of Salford.
Alternatively, if you’re in Castlefield why not take the time to explore the city’s origins at the Roman Fort of Mamucium, part of the Castlefield Urban Heritage Park. Discover the replica fort and the original fort ruins.
Afternoon:
Spend a leisurely afternoon wandering through one of the city’s parks. To the south of the city, just off Oxford Road, you’ll find Whitworth Park, home to the Whitworth Gallery. Discover work by some of the world’s leading artists in the gallery and throughout the gardens that surround the building.
To the north of the city centre you’ll find Heaton Park. More than just a park the green space offers all the attractions needed for a full day out for all ages. Including play areas, golf course, pitch & putt, boating lake, Treetop Trek and a plethora of historic buildings dotted throughout the park.
Evening:
Head back into Manchester City Centre to freshen up before an evening of winding down in style.
Make your way to Spinningfields, home to luxury restaurants dishing up everything from South American barbeque, to traditional Spanish Tapas, to a modern take on Chinese cuisine. Alternatively, discover Cathedral Gardens and The Corn Exchange and all its original Edwardian beauty, home to a mouth-watering mix of restaurants dishing up cuisines from around the world
