1. Discover sixty decades of influential art at The Whitworth

An inspiring new exhibition launches this Friday, 10 May, at The Whitworth gallery. Showcasing 60 years of art, John Lyons: Carnivalesque explores the Caribbean British artist’s contribution to art, literature and art education and his focus on Trinidadian folklore and mythology. The retrospective exhibition will be on until 25 August and will display over 80 pieces by the artist. The Whitworth is free to visit. 

2. Party like it’s the 90’s at Three Little Words

To commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Haçienda Gin, Manchester Gin is throwing a Haçienda Party this Thursday, 9 May at 7PM. You can expect live DJs, iconic music from the Madchester years, amazing cocktails and a special appearance by Salford’s own Peter Hook. Tickets start from £30 and include a welcome drink and canapés.

3. Browse for your new favourite book at Elizabeth Gaskell’s House

Step inside the house of one of Manchester’s greatest literary icons to discover a stunning treasure trove of second-hand books. Every second Sunday of each month, starting on the 12 May, the Elizabeth Gaskell's House Second- Hand Book Sale brings you two packed rooms with books of all genres. Standard admission to the House starts from £7.50 and your ticket is valid for 12 months.

4. Kick off your weekend at this free public festival

This Friday, 10 May, head to Tameside for an evening of great family fun. Held on the second Friday of the month, the Stalybridge Street Fest will take place from 5PM at Armentieres Square and will be packed with live music, activities and delicious food and drink including Thai food, gyros, burritos and much more. Free to attend, the festival welcomes all!

5. Jeremiah Ferrari takes to the stage in Rochdale

This Friday, 10 May, live music bar Empire Rochdale welcomes to the stage one of Manchester’s amazing grassroots band. Jeremiah Ferrari will bring their electric energy and genre fusion sound to Rochdale for another incredible live show. They will be followed by a live DJ so you can keep partying through the night. Admission is free before 8.30PM, and £3 afterwards at the door.

New Opening: Bold Street Coffee, Spinningfields

Having quickly become a favourite in Manchester, this Liverpool-founded artisanal coffee shop has opened its fifth location in Spinningfields.
