1. Discover Greater Manchester with free guided walks
On the 15 and 16 July try out the new GM Ringway Trail with a series of free guided walks. The five free trails are easily accessible via public transport and will take you on different exciting adventures, including an accessible, step-free walk at Sale Water Park and a ‘walk for all’ around Longford Park. As part of this pilot, you can try out the brand-new app and website. There are limited spaces available so tickets must be booked via Eventbrite.
2. See the city centre through a different perspective with Manchester International Festival
The last week of MIF23 is packed with performances and interactive works. Catch untitled f*ck m*ss s**gon play at The Royal Exchange Theatre until the 16 July and be captivated by the award-winning play.
While you are in the city, keep your eyes peeled for some special, collectable coins scattered around for The Find by Ryan Gander. Then pop by Selfridges at Exchange Square and visit Gander’s Intervention Space, where one of the artist’s famous vending machines will be installed.
You can also venture to the streets with interactive walking event We Cut Through Dust, where you will be guided by a series of phone calls through the city. This work by Manchester Street Poem and Blast Theory is an hour walk that mixes fantasy and reality and is a version of the future told by ‘those who remain’. Manchester International Festival runs until 16 July.
3. The Lowry Presents Matthew Bourne’s Romeo & Juliet
From 11 to 15 July, you can watch Matthew Bourne’s Romeo & Juliet at the Lowry Theatre. In this dance re-telling of a timeless tale of love and sacrifice, Romeo and Juliet find themselves confined and struggling against a disapproving society. The acclaimed play is a collaboration between Matthew Bourne and New Adventures. Tickets start from £18.70.
4. Have your jazz hands at the ready this weekend!
Wigan International Jazz Festival is back at The Village on the Green, from 13 to 16 July. This weekend you can celebrate incredible jazz artists such as Mica Millar and James Morrison in this renowned festival. On Saturday you can enjoy a performance by the local talent of the Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra. Tickets start from £28.
5. Spend an evening of nostalgia at The Bridgewater Hall
Radio and television presenter Ken Bruce will host The Best of British Pop on Saturday 15 July at The Bridgewater Hall. West End stars Jon Boydon and Laura Tebbutt give a new voice to your favourite hits and will perform alongside the Hallé orchestra and a guest rhythm section. Tickets from £15.50.
6. New Opening: Bunsik
A new Korean restaurant has just opened in the heart of Piccadilly Gardens, with its first restaurant outside of London. Bunsik’s TikTok ‘viral’ corn dogs can be dipped in cheese or potato chunks and are drizzled in a spicy sauce. Their menu also includes ddukbokki (stir-fried rice cakes), delicious Korean-style chicken as well as noodle and rice dishes.
