1. Explore the wonders of science
Manchester Pint of Science festival returns this year, and it's kicking off with a free launch event at the Henry Royce Institute. On Monday 17 April, there'll be experts on everything from artificial intelligence to snot, giving speedy flash talks about their research, to give you a flavour of what's to come. The main Pint of Science festival runs from 20-24 May and this launch event hopes to give you the 'sip of science' you need to warm up your tastebuds.
2. Go on a floral treasure hunt around the city
NOMA has partnered with the National Trust to celebrate blossom and all the beauty of nature this April. Come down and see the pop-up Blossom display of apple and cherry trees in Sadler’s Yard and check out an array of free events – some of which do need to be booked – at NOMA and across the city. You can download the digital Bloomtown map or pick up a paper copy from Sadler’s Cat, New Century or Pulp Speciality Coffee to enjoy the walking trail anytime this month.
3. Join one of Manchester’s most iconic venues as they celebrate 150 years
Get ready to celebrate a special milestone as the Manchester Craft and Design Centre's Victorian market building turns 150 years old this year! Join in their celebration on Saturday 22 April, where you can participate in a free Clay & Play workshop, an Insect Trail inspired by new exhibition, Entomagical, and complimentary drinks from BQ Bitesize. The celebration will continue on Sunday 23 April with two performances of Sea Change by the Kantos Chamber Choir at 2:30pm and 5pm.
4. Manchester’s favourite street food festival travels to Wythenshawe
GRUB’s travelling street food festival returns to Wythenshawe this week. On Saturday 22 April, this award-winning festival is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves delicious and unique street food. Featuring a diverse range of food vendors offering everything from vegan burgers to Korean fried chicken, this festival is a foodie's dream come true.
5. Delve into the history of the British worker at the John Rylands Library
The Workers' Playtime Exhibition at John Rylands Library showcases a fascinating glimpse into the lives of British workers during the mid-20th century. Featuring a range of artifacts, including photographs, posters, and personal accounts, the exhibition provides a unique insight into the leisure pursuits of those who worked long hours in factories and mills.
Book Now: Festival OF Libraries 2023
Manchester’s Festival of Libraries returns this year. Between 7-11 June, the annual celebration highlights libraries and their importance to the community. The festival features a wide range of events, including author talks, workshops, exhibitions, and performances, all taking place across various libraries throughout Greater Manchester. It's a fantastic opportunity for visitors to discover new books and engage with local authors, as well as to learn more about the history and significance of Manchester's libraries.
