1. Explore the skies with Jodrell Bank 

The Royal Observatory Greenwich’s Astronomy Photographer of the Year exhibition is back at Jodrell Bank throughout this month. Explore a mind-blowing new set of winning and highly commended images from the 2021 competition. From impressive aurorae to glittering galaxies, Astronomy Photographer of the Year celebrates the world’s greatest space photography. 

2. Watch quirky play ‘A house with Chicken Legs’ at HOME 

Coming to an end later this month at HOME, A house with Chicken Legs is quite literally about a girl whose house has chicken legs, making it pretty hard for her to make friends. Based on the bestselling novel by Sophie Anderson, the whole ordeal will be brought to life by award-winning theatre company Les Enfants Terribles and will be told through a mix of live music, puppetry, and "a sprinkle of magic". It runs until 23 April.  

3. Tony Award-winning show comes to Trafford 

Winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Kinky Boots features a Tony-winning score by Cyndi Lauper and a hilarious, uplifting book by four-time Tony winner Harvey Fierstein. Coming to Waterside Arts Centre in Sale on Wednesday 27 April, Kinky Boots is a true story about a struggling British shoe factory's young, strait-laced owner, Charlie, who forms an unlikely partnership with Lola, a drag queen, to save the business. Kinky Boots is full of elaborate costumes, exhilarating choreography and a truly moving and powerful story. 

4. Experience our wonderful world with the Salford Choral Society 

Join in for an evening of uplifting music celebrating the wonder of nature at the Royal Northern College of Music. On Saturday 23 April experience the world premiere of The Gardener by young composer Lucy Armstrong and lyricist Rebecca Hurst. This exciting and accessible new work explores a day in the life of the garden from First Light to Dusk Falls, thunderstorm included!  

5. Explore the history of Rugby League in Wigan 

Celebrate Rugby League past and present and what makes it so special at the Museum of Life in Wigan. Follow local teams’ trophy-filled histories and learn how Wigan, Leigh and Tyldesley broke away from the Rugby Football Union in 1895 and formed the Northern Union. Learn about the early game, the rise of women in the sport, disability rugby, grassroots rugby, the international game and the all-important fans!  

New opening of the week: 100 years of the BBC in Manchester at the Science and Industry Museum 

Celebrate 100 years of the BBC in Manchester with a new display that showcases Manchester as a centre of innovation in broadcasting, from 1922 to the present, and looking to the future. Discover the story of one of the UK's earliest radio stations, which was based in Manchester and find out more about how people listened to early broadcasts. Then take a look at some of the latest developments in broadcasting being developed by the BBC at MediaCityUK and explore new technologies that will change the way we watch and listen forever. 

Book Now: Find your green fingers and build your own terrarium  

How do they get those tiny green succulents into those small little glass jars? Thanks to Feels Like Home's bottle terrarium class at Manchester's Craft and Design Centre, you can find out. On Saturday 25 June, this 90-minute class includes a brief history of terrariums and an in-depth demonstration of how to create your own. The event ticket includes all equipment, and the workshop is suitable for both novices and experts.
