1. Take in some local art at Media City’s ‘Art Hall’
Media City's Box on the Docks are proud to present 'New Art Showcase', which aims to profile eight local artists in 'Art Hall', a temporary covered venue in the heart of MediaCity's gardens. Curated by design and art duo, Mikesian Studio, the exhibit showcases some of the boundless creativity found in the local area.
2. Show themed around footballing icon Eric Cantona comes to National Football Museum
On Thursday 2 February, National Football Museum plays host to Fan/Girl, an award-winning show by comedian Bryony Byrne. The show tells the story of adolescence through the backdrop of 90s football and follows the journey of a ten-year-old girl pretending to be Eric Cantona in order to escape her dull suburban life and find her true identity. Tickets start from £10.
3. Celebrate democracy at the People’s History Museum
Come face to face with a colourful selection of historic and contemporary banners at the People's History Museum, the handiwork of those who fought for the rights we have today. Revamping a quarter of their main galleries, the 2023 Banner Exhibition gives a unique insight into movements from the 1889 Great London Dock Strike to the 2019 climate strikes, with several banners on display for the first time.
4. Watch an award-winning cartoonist at work at Gallery Oldham
On Saturday 4 February, Gallery Oldham will be hosting an exhibition on the award-winning cartoonist Tony Husband. This exhibition will showcase the best of Tony Husband's work, and provide insight into his creative process. It is a great chance to get up close and personal with one of Britain’s most talented cartoonists.
5. Lose yourself at Haigh Woodland Park
Have a day out with a difference this week at Haigh Woodland Park in Wigan. The 250-acre park and woodland features a courtyard brewery, chocolatier, baker and their own ice cream maker. For those looking to stay active, they also feature an 18-hole footgolf course, a huge crazy golf course, a highwire treetop adventure experience and their own hop-on miniature railway, the list goes on! New Opening: Kimpton Clocktower Hotel – Warm Workspace
Kimpton Clocktower Hotel on Oxford Street has launched a ‘Warm Workspaces’ area this week to help people facing increasing energy bills as they work from home. The new space will be available through the winter months of January and February and, if booked, will include complimentary hot desk facilities, WiFi and a hot drink.
Book Now: One Hundred, Emirates Old Trafford
One of Cricket’s latest competitions, The Hundred, has announced it 2023 fixture list this week, with Manchester Originals kicking off their first home game of the season at Emirates Old Trafford this summer. Both Men’s and Women’s Originals team’s take on London Spirit on Saturday 5 August and with the Men’s team making it all the way to the final last year and the women’s coming in sixth, it’s hopefully set to be the fixture that kicks off another great season. Tickets are set to go on sale in the coming weeks, with prices starting from £10.
