1. Have your mind blown at a Manchester Science Festival
New Scientist Live is coming to Manchester, bringing thought-provoking discussions from the world's top science speakers as well as one-of-a-kind interactive experiences. Over two days, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 March, Manchester Central will welcome discussions on the universe and earth, technology and the body and brain. With 30 different exhibitors and feature areas on the show floor, you can have your mind blown by discovering and exploring world-changing science.
2. Kick back, relax and grab the popcorn at the Manchester Film Festival
Manchester Film Festival returns 12-20 March at the Odeon Great Northern. Over 130 films will screen, all playing in Manchester for the very first time, and 80 of the selected films will be from the UK. From psychological dramas to documentaries and comedies, the festival will see 27 world premieres and 74 UK premieres and many of the filmmakers will be in attendance to participate in Q&A sessions after screenings.
3. Celebrate International Women’s Day
International Women’s day is back this year on Tuesday 8 March and Greater Manchester has lots of different events on offer that can help you celebrate this important day. Join Salford Arts Centre on Tuesday 8 March or Manchester Central Library on Wednesday 9 March for an enchanting evening with some wonderful northwest poets. Visit The People’s History Museum for an exciting day of stalls, activities, talks and protest songs celebrating International Women's Day on Saturday 12 March. You can also visit the Science and Industry Museum this week for the last chance to learn about the contribution women have made to the treatment of Cancer in their world-first Cancer Revolution: Science, Innovation and hope exhibition.
4. Join in on a vegetarian cooking club
Join the team at the Vegetarian Society's Friday evening Supper Clubs to get your weekend off to a wonderful start. You'll get to cook alongside expert tutors to create some delicious Indian cuisine before sitting down to eat it. Whether you visit with friends or by yourself, you'll enjoy a relaxing, sociable atmosphere while unwinding, chatting, and eating delicious food.
5. Discover the magical world of The Chocolate Factory
A marvellous immersive experience is coming to The Trafford Centre from Friday 11 March to Saturday 30 April. Discover the magical world of The Chocolate Factory and explore a variety of rooms with all kinds of instagrammable themes: there's Chocolate Town, the Cupcake Room, the Ball Pit, Cloudland, and, of course, the Chocolate Factory. But you won't just be able to admire the magical sweets: you'll be able to eat some, too!
New opening of the week: Another Hand, Deansgate Mews
Another Hand, a promising new addition to Deansgate Mews debutued last week on Wednesday 3rd March. Serving a daily changing menu of seasonal small dishes, the emphasis at Another Hand focusses on the quality of the ingredients, with the team taking great pride in sourcing the best local suppliers. It aims to provide an intimate atmosphere as well as a predominantly vegetarian menu with some sustainably sourced meat and seafood dishes.
Book Now: Sounds from the other city 2022
After a two year hiatus, Sounds from the other city returns to Chapel Street on May Day Bank Holiday, Sunday 1 May 2022. Regarded by many as the ‘Christmas Day’ of the independent creative scene, the festival will be back to bring colour, imagination and the best in new music and art to the pubs, bars, squares, studios, warehouses and ‘everywhere in between’ spaces of Chapel Street, Salford.
