Four classic David Cronenberg horror films, an atmospheric Art Deco setting and an extended afternoon to enjoy – sounds like a winning combination. That is the format of a thrilling ‘Cronenberg Day’ – taking place at Stockport Plaza Cinema on Sunday 8 February – presented by Grimmfest, in partnership with the Horror Channel.
It is all part of Grimmfest’s ‘Horror Legends Season’ of screenings – taking place across Spring and early Summer 2020 and featuring films from Tobe Hooper (former event on 9/2/20), David Cronenberg (8/3/20), John Carpenter (9/5/20) and Wes Craven (5/7/20). That’s 16 movies in total over 4 special day events… and all are in partnership with The Horror Channel, so guests can be sure of a truly terrifying time! So what can guests expect from Cronenberg Day on the 8 February? Four thrilling films screened one after the other – an ideal feast for any film fanatic – though tickets are also available for individual films. Doors open at 12.30pm and the first on the screen at 1pm will be Rabid – the stark, striking film starring Marilyn Chambers, which inspired a recent remake by the Soska Sisters. This will be followed by Videodrome at 3.10pm – the Science-Fiction Body Horror fusion, exploring the ‘video nasties’ hysteria of the 1980s in a gripping way. The Fly is the penultimate film at 5.10pm – a twisted love story of the genre – followed by the iconic Crash at 7.15pm; J.G Ballard’s novel of the same name transformed into film through Cronenberg’s cinematic reimagining.
Stockport Plaza Cinema certainly marks an iconic setting (pictured below) – a beautiful example of 1932 Art Deco architecture – and easily accessible from Manchester too. In celebration of the day ahead, Grimmfest have produced a special Grimmfest Cronenberg trailer here and tickets are available now via the link.
There is also the opportunity to win two day passes to the upcoming Grimmfest 2020 (Wednesday 7 October - Sunday 11 October at the Odeon Great Northern) as well as a horror-packed goodie bag – with a competition open until Friday 28 February!
