Piccadilly Gardens will host two big screens on Sunday 27 March broadcasting an international music concert opposing the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The free, unticketed event is being broadcast across 20 countries via Polish TV channel TVP from 16:30 to 18:30 on Sunday afternoon (17:30 CET and 18:30 in Kyiv), with the physical concert taking place in Warsaw, Poland. The event will also be broadcast across a range of streaming platforms and social networks.
The Save Ukraine - #stopwar concert will include world-famous artists including, Imagine Dragons, Nothing But Thieves, Fatboy Slim, Craig David, and Eurovision Song Contest winners Salvador Sobral and Netta.
The hosts of the event include Ukraine’s Timur Miroshnychenko and Masha Efrosinina.
The event intends to raise awareness of the plight of Ukrainian people following the Russian invasion over the past month and raise funding that will be sent directly to Ukraine to help address the growing humanitarian crisis in the country. (See donation information in notes to editors)
Prior to the event, Piccadilly Gardens will be open to the public, but barriers and security will be put in place for the broadcast event. Gates will open at 3pm. Gates will be closed if the area reaches capacity.
This will be an alcohol-free, family-friendly event. Limited bench table and seating will also be made available.
Other global cities hosting a screen in support of the Save Ukraine - #stopwar event include Paris, Milan, Berlin, Stockholm, London, Washington, Toronto, Vienna, Tel Aviv, Riga and Vilinius.
Cllr Luthfur Rahman, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council, said: “The images coming out of Ukraine in the last few weeks have been shocking. We stand in solidarity with the people of the Ukraine and we will do everything we can to support the humanitarian effort to help those affected by the Russian invasion.
“It is an honour to host one of the screens for the international Save Ukraine - #stopwar concert, which is being broadcast across the world. Ukraine needs our help, so anything we can do to keep fundraising going to support those that need it, we will do.”

Separate to Sunday’s event, the Council has also launched the MCR Ukraine Welcome Fund this week, which will fund charities and voluntary sector groups providing assistance - such as small grants for essential items, and advice - to families and individuals relocating to the city.
It will be run by the We Love Manchester charity (the Lord Mayor of Manchester’s charity) in partnership with Manchester City Council and every penny raised will be spent locally in the city and go towards supporting Ukrainian evacuees in Manchester. The Council have kicked off the fund with a donation of £50,000.
