Northern Lights Manchester with John Lewis: Festive Magic Illuminates Heaton Park

Manchester is gearing up for a spectacular new festive tradition as Northern Lights Manchester prepares to illuminate Heaton Park for its debut season — joined by John Lewis as Headline Sponsor this Thursday.

Running from 20^th November to 31^st December 2025 , guests can embark on a stunning mile-long light and sound trail through the city's most iconic green space. Heaton Park will be transformed by breathtaking light installations, enchanting sculptures and mesmerising soundscapes that celebrate creativity, community and festive spirit. Every corner offers a new delight: stroll through twinkling tunnels, marvel at radiant trees, and engage with interactive features that will have everyone grinning from ear to ear. 

Produced by From The Fields — the award-winning team behind Kendal Calling, Bluedot, and Christmas at Bute Park — Northern Lights Manchester brings a world-class, design-led experience that combines light, sound and storytelling on a grand scale.

The trail will feature 16 large-scale installations created by acclaimed design studios Mandy Lights and Ithaca Studios, whose work has illuminated Kew Gardens, Netflix premieres, and Glastonbury Festival. Visitors will wander through glowing tunnels, enchanted glades and a shimmering illuminated lake scene — a 90-minute immersive journey for all ages.

Trail Highlights

• Aurora Rising — a breathtaking lakeside spectacle of hundreds of floating, synchronised spheres.
• Gladioli — 16 grand floral arches forming a vibrant, 40-metre tunnel of colour.
• Mandora Blooms — a suspended forest of 80 handmade, illuminated flowers inspired by the mystical world of Pandora.
• Buzzing Boulevard of Dreams — a heartwarming illumination that showcases local schoolchildren’s artwork, projected beneath visitors’ feet.
• The Hive at Heaton Park — 2,000 silver stems rising from the ground with illusions that give the impression of twinkling bees.

Festive Food, Drink & Fairground Magic

After the trail, visitors can refuel in the Christmas Village, with Manchester’s popular independents serving winter-warming classics and indulgent treats: think Yorkshire pudding wraps piled high, wood-fired pizza, Greek street food, loaded fries and fried chicken, local-favourite mac ’n’ cheese, plus churros, crepes and bubble waffles for dessert. Two themed bars will pour mulled wine, craft beer and signature hot chocolates, alongside open-fire marshmallow toasting and vintage fairground rides — the perfect finishing touch to a magical night out.

Accessibility & Community

The fully accessible route follows hard paths and matted areas, with no steps, making it suitable for wheelchairs and prams. Quiet sessions and queue-jump wristbands are available for visitors with additional needs.
