Historic Houses, Highest Hill
Enjoy views over Bolton, Wigan and the West Pennine Moors as this walk takes you on a round trip from historic Smithills Hall up to Winter Hill – via the pretty mill village of Barrow Bridge.
The South Pennine Water Trail
Hollingworth Lake in Littleborough is your start and end point. As well as stunning views over the lake, you will also take in the Rochdale Canal It is known as the “Everest” of canals, rising through 55 locks on the west of the Pennines to its highest point 600ft above sea level, then down through a further 36 locks on the eastern side.
Worsley Village Circular
Enjoy the chocolate-box black and white timbered houses, tranquil woodlands and the birthplace of the transport revolution – The Bridgewater Canal.
Peel Tower, Holcombe Moor and Ramsbottom
This circular walk has spectacular views, woodlands, riverside rambles and heritage. When you reach Peel Tower take a moment to admire the views over Manchester and the rest of the north west. The walk begins at Ramsbottom Station – travel there in style on a steam train!
Etherow Country Park Woodlands and Waterways
A beautiful and calm woodland walk around mill ponds, rivers and streams with colourful views of the Goyt Valley. Begins and ends in Etherow Country Park, Stockport – look out for the giant kingfisher sculpture.
