The Refuge by Volta and Kimpton Clocktower Hotel, are delighted to announce the launch of their brand-new afternoon tea, served exclusively in the stunning surroundings of the Winter Garden from Tuesday 20th July.

Expect a classic affair with a contemporary twist, featuring savoury treats, scones and three-tiers of sweet treats. The new afternoon tea menu is available every Tuesday to Thursday, served from 1pm to 4pm, from Tuesday 20th July.

For savoury treats, there’s a Cheddar cheese custard with flatbread crisps, baby carrots and radishes; a fresh Oak-smoked salmon with beetroot chutney, labneh and pumpernickel; and a punchy Pork and kimchi sausage roll.

To follow, there’s buttery Date and sour cherry scones, accompanied by clotted cream and strawberry preserve. But the showstopper is a three-tiered cake stand, featuring Fig Battenberg, Passion fruit and white chocolate opera cake, Spiced carrot cake with cardamom and rose petal, Yoghurt, honey and tahini choux bun, and a Black Forest gateaux (a nod to The Refuge’s gin partner, Monkey 47, who’s botanicals come from the Black Forest).

Hot drinks come courtesy of Manchester favourites, The Brew Tea Company tea and Heart & Graft coffee. Although if you fancy a little something extra, there’s some brand-new cocktails and no-alcoholic options designed to be perfect partners to afternoon tea, featuring: Peach Tea Bellini made (peach liqueur and sparkling green tea), Rooibos Sbagliato, a twist on the classic Negroni Sbagliato (sparkling red tea and Campari), Monkey Knees and Breakfast Marmalade Martini, both showcasing Monkey 47. For those wanting to add a bit of sparkle to their afternoon, there’s a selection of Champagne, alongside the new Copenhagen Sparkling Tea, an organic low/non-alcoholic sparkling drink, combining Nordic innovation and Asian tea traditions, made from a cuvée of carefully selected teas.

Jack Dennett, General Manager of The Refuge by Volta, said: “We’ve been working on creating this Afternoon Tea with our signature twist for some time, and we’re very excited to share the experience with friends of The Refuge and Kimpton Clocktower Hotel.
