Hotel Brooklyn, Manchester, leading hotels across Europe in its design for accessibility, has won the prestigious 2021 Catey’s Accessibility Award, adding to its stellar line up of prizes.

The Catey’s are known as the ‘Oscars’ of the Hospitality world and are now one of the biggest awards within the industry, spearheaded by the trade publication The Caterer. The distinguished award was presented at Grosvenor House, London on Tuesday night at a celebration banquet for 2000 guests.

Hotel Brooklyn, opened in 2020 a month before our first lockdown, is proud to lead the pack - devoted to be accessible to all, whatever their needs, and without compromising on style and design. It has 18 beautifully-adapted rooms that are perfectly acceptable for guests without challenges when not in use, including the UK’s first fully-accessible suites including the first hotel room in Manchester to offer a ceiling track hoist for guests.

These ‘Liberty’ rooms have been carefully designed by Motionspot, an award-winning accessible design specialist. Other features include basins with integrated hand grips, removable matt black grab rails and accessible bedroom storage. Staff have also all been trained to support the needs of guests suffering from well-being or mental health issues.

A game-changer in every sense, Hotel Brooklyn has already won over 20 awards this year. It embodies a compassionate approach to wellbeing, proudly and sensitively meeting the challenges people face when looking for a luxury stay even if they have personal challenges of their own.

Paul Bayliss MBE, the delighted General Manager of the hotel says: it’s a fantastic award and a testament to forethought, planning, design and delivery. I feel it is the hotel that will change our industry, as not only is it a trendy property earning constant rave reviews for its ability to deliver a fantastic experience for guests, it actually achieves this for every individual. The confidence this provides within our team is immense. No matter the guest’s challenge, we are able to look after their needs. It’s great for our team and all guests and their family and friends as I firmly believe designers will now sit up and take notice that there is a value, both moral and financial, in designing a property truly accessible for all.

Ed Warner, Founder & CEO Motionspot says ‘Hotel Brooklyn perfectly demonstrates what is possible when blending style with accessibility. By incorporating accessible design principles and the right products at the start of the design process, we have been able to help create a hotel that is appealing and accessible for everyone’.
