Get ready to squish, sniff, dance, and discover all the senses this summer at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester. From the 19 July to 31 August families are invited on a wild, weird, and wonderful adventure through the science of our senses.

Whether you're into bogies, brains, or big-time gaming, there’s something sense-sational for everyone.

What’s Happening This Summer?

The Science and Industry are diving deep into the gooey, giggly world of Operation Ouch! Brains, Bogies and You, a blockbuster exhibition inspired by the hit BBC Children’s show. But the fun doesn’t stop there—their Summer of Senses is packed with six weeks of FREE hands-on activities across the museum.

Here’s a sneak peek at what you can explore:

Welcome to the Bogie Lab

Forget polite noses—this is science with sniff. The Bogie Lab is sticky, slimy, and a total blast. Learn all about the science of smell and make your very own pot of super-sized snot to take home. You’ll never look at your tissue the same way again.

Brain Games & Optical Illusions

How does your brain make sense of the world? Find out through brain-teasing activities and mind-boggling challenges that explore how we see, hear, and feel the world around us. Don’t miss the silent discos where kids can groove their way around a giant brain, learning how our bodies react to sound in the most fun way imaginable.

Power Up: The Ultimate Gaming Experience

For the digital adventurers, Power Up is a must. From retro arcade classics to virtual reality showdowns, test your reflexes, coordination, and senses in this immersive gaming zone. Play fan-favourites like Guitar Hero and Just Dance, or dive into a virtual world you’ll never want to leave. Day passes cost £8 and Annual passes cost £15, so you can power up again and again.

Operation Ouch! – Gross Has Never Been This Great

Brace yourself for the world-premiere family exhibition, Operation Ouch! Brains, Bogies and You. Slide through an ear canal, journey through your senses, and end your experience with a sneeze—literally. There’s even a chance to meet Dr Xand from the show in a special live event (announcement coming soon!).

This is science like you've never experienced it—gross, interactive, and packed with fun.

Celebrating Pride and Progress

Look out for special activities to celebrate Manchester Pride this August. Science is for everyone, and our doors are wide open for families of all kinds.

What’s on at the Museum?

The museum is undergoing a multi-million-pound transformation, restoring iconic spaces like the Power Hall (reopening this autumn). In the meantime, there’s still so much to explore:

  • Experiment Gallery – hands-on science fun
  • Textiles Gallery – meet Manchester’s mighty machines
  • Revolution Manchester – celebrate world-changing ideas
  • Stephen Hawking Display – see incredible objects from the physicist’s office
