As a city with incredible architecture and some truly beautiful buildings, it's no surprise that Manchester is the perfect place to tie the knot. From outstanding hotels to quirky libraries, there's plenty of places to say 'I do' in the city. We asked the fantastic local wedding photographer Maddie Farris to share her top alternative wedding venues in Manchester.
1. Elizabeth Gaskell's House
Located only 5 minutes away from the city centre, Elizabeth Gaskell's House is a perfect venue for small weddings. Being a Grade II listed building, Elizabeth Gaskell's house has plenty of history and a beautiful garden perfect for a drinks reception. Inside the house, there are plenty of rooms full of character such as the study & drawing room which have Victorian style décor and furnishings.
2. Ducie Street Warehouse
Discover the perfect wedding venue at Ducie Street Warehouse, home to Native Manchester. The converted warehouse offers a unique and versatile space for weddings of all sizes, providing stunning backdrops for their special day. From intimate gatherings to grand celebrations, the adaptable rooms and seating areas ensure an unforgettable experience.
3. The Whitworth Gallery
You can have your ceremony at The Whitworth in one of the amazing gallery spaces, perfect for those looking for a contemporary wedding venue. The Grand Hall is a beautifully light space for a wedding breakfast and there are plenty of places for quirky photo-opportunities in the many galleries.
4. The Portico Library
A hidden gem on Mosley Street right in the city centre, The Portico Library is a beautiful historic library which dates back to 1806. If you are a bit of a bookworm, you will absolutely love the tall bookshelves and cosy private study. The Portico Library makes for a wonderfully unique and intimate wedding venue.
5. Elliot House
Situated on Deansgate, Elliot House is a stunning Grade II listed building and until 1995 it was the city's main registry office. The Chamber Room where you can have your wedding ceremony is full of history & character. Elliot House has many spaces inside for photographs such as the beautiful main staircase, but it is also very close-by to St.Peter's Square which makes for a great photographs.
6. The Castlefield Rooms
The Castlefield Rooms is another lovely smaller wedding venue in the city centre. With its backdrop of Castlefield Basin featuring plenty of red brick, cobbles & industrial iron-work it is a true Manchester setting! You can also book the Lock Keepers cottage, which is beautifully furnished, to get ready in the morning of your wedding and to stay that night
